Abstract

Polemonium coeruleum is an allochthonous species in the Orlické hory Mts. (Northeast Bohemia). We cannot exclude the possibility of its early introduction (as early as the end of the 16th century) to the region as a medical and ornamental plant by Tyrol colonists. It still belongs to cultivated plants there. It escapes from culture, gets wild, and enters some of the anthropogenous communities of the clases Galio-Urticetea and Molinio-Arrhenatheretea. The occurrence in natural vegetation along banks of water courses is only rare (the alliance Petasition officinalis). Most of the localities of wild plants have been recorded at altitudes from 550 to 720 m above sea level. At lower altitudes of the Orlické hory Mts. foothills the cultivation of this species is less frequent and no wild plants have been found there.
